00:00 South Africa, Zululand: Flutes and Body Harp: This performance is based on two simple repetitive melodic ideas of three notes each. The flutes are very breathy when compared to the focused flute sound of Europe and America. The strings of the body harp are beaten with fingernails. The tone is produced by a Calabash gourd which holds the bow and arrow-like harp. The chant-like repetitions have subtle variations in inflection; such a performance could possibly continue for quite a long period of time.
